Devlog 2: Movement, Shaders and other Stuff
Movement
The movement system has been updated to feel less slippery, while still allowing for the conservation of momentum when the player is not touching the ground.
Player foolishly falling into lava, and then skilfully grappling over lava
This movement still has a few weird bugs that need fixing (like a random super boost that launches the player forward incredibly fast), and we are continuing to tweak the movement settings to get the best feeling possible.
Shaders
We have added a shader to the lava pits to make them blob around.
Beautiful lava shader
An amazing portal shader has also been created for our end of level portals. These will show a peek at the beginning of the next level.
End of level portal
We are thinking of possibly changing the shape of the portal around.
Baked Lighting
Lighting has been baked into the level .
Baked lava pit 1
Baked lava pit 2
Baked lava pit 3
The end of level portal has baked lighting and real-time lighting that will affect the grapple gun.
Portal lighting up the gun
We will continue to add more lights around the level to give it a nice atmosphere.
Menu
The settings menu has gotten a couple of settings added, FOV (Field of view) which can be changed using a slider or entering it into the input field, and a username setting that will be used to set the name that will be displayed on the leaderboard if the player makes it on there. It is incredibly ugly for now :)
Settings being set
Other stuff
The end of level portal will bring up the leaderboard when the player reaches it, it is currently very ugly and will be changed to something better :)
The leaderboard now shows the name of the player that achieved the top 10 times in the current level.
Player reaching the end, and displaying the leaderboard, sadly 117 seconds is too slow to beat BigJoe :(
Once the player has finished looking at the leaderboard they can press 'R' to restart the current level, or 'Enter' to move to the next level.
