Module 1 Devlog: Simple Unity Scene (Tutorial 1)

Devlog for Tutorial 1

Unity Scene

A scene was created in Unity using a barrel and lighthouse created in blender earlier, then exported from Blender as FBX files and added to the Unity asset folder, along with their textures as pngs, joined by a number of items downloaded from Turbosquid:

  • a low poly tree
  • a dumpster
  • some rocks

All of these objects were laid on a green plane to create the beautiful scene of a lighthouse surrounded by dumpsters, barrels, trees and some rocks.

The dumpsters and barrels have been given mesh colliders and rigid bodies so they will fall to the ground when the scene is played.

A truly thrilling scene to behold.

Blender Modifier Experimentation

Some Blender modifiers were also experimented with such as:

Subdivide surface

Which made the barrel smoother and messed up the texture:

Decimate

Which reduces the amount of polygons, and made a real mess of the barrel:

this would work better on a model with a much higher amount of polygons.

Bevel

which made the barrel look quite nice by rounding the hard edges:

Conclusion

This was a fun tutorial and I learned a lot :)
